Community Investment and Social Value

Our Commitment to Social Value and Community

At Joseph Gallagher, social value is embedded in everything we do. Our purpose goes beyond delivering projects—we strive to create lasting, positive impacts in the communities where we work. By supporting local groups and initiatives, we ensure that our presence benefits the people and environments around us.

Many of our projects are in residential neighbour hoods and natural habitats, placing us at the heart of vibrant communities. We recognise the importance of being socially conscious and actively engage with local residents from the outset. Our commitment to these communities extends beyond construction. It involves thoughtful communication, fostering local employment, and contributing to initiatives that enrich the lives of residents.

Building Local Opportunities

We are passionate about offering career opportunities to local people. By promoting job openings and recruiting talent from the areas in which we work, we support those looking to start a career in construction. Additionally, we regularly collaborate with clients to visit schools, participate in Parish Council meetings, and engage with community groups, providing valuable insights into our work and the opportunities available in the industry.

Engaging with Young People

Working with young people is at the heart of our community efforts. In 2022, in partnership with clients such as HS2 and SCS Railways, we engaged over 500 pupils and students through school visits and career events. Our aim is to inspire the next generation of engineers and construction professionals by offering hands-on learning experiences, mock interviews, and school career fairs.

Supporting Local Causes

Our commitment to social value also includes volunteering and supporting community-driven projects. We’ve helped upgrade local facilities, such as refurbishing the Bishop’s Stortford Football Clubhouse and volunteering for projects like landscaping the Dunlop and Lugton Community’s Defibrillator Station. We’ve also made significant charitable contributions, including donations to food banks and participating in fundraising events like Movember to raise awareness for men’s health.

In 2023, we contributed to the creation of a Community Woodland in Essex, planting thousands of trees as part of a long-term environmental initiative. Our involvement with local schools, such as the donation of metal detectors and litter-picking sets, reflects our dedication to improving both community safety and environmental care.
